3 Mistakes to Avoid When Using Bathroom Tiles
When it comes to a bathroom remodel, tiles are almost always going to be a feature. They are versatile, can be used on all different kinds of surfaces, and are ideal for a wet environment. Although bathroom tiling is very popular, this is not to say that everybody gets their use of tile correct. Here are some mistakes to avoid when utilising tile in your bathroom remodel.
Too much variety. The bathroom tends to be one of the smaller rooms in the house and for this reason lends itself to unfussy, uncomplicated design choices. Yes, there's a huge number of great tile designs out there, but this doesn't mean that you can accommodate all of your favourite tiles into one bathroom remodel. You should, as a rule, not use more than three types of tile in one bathroom (unless it's very large), and they should complement each other in terms of colour and pattern. Stick to three and under and your bathroom will look far more chic.
Choosing the wrong grout. So much effort goes into choosing bathroom tiles, yet relatively little goes into picking grout colours, and grout is going to be something visible in any bathroom with tile and thus deserves just as much attention. First of all, you need to decide if you want the colour of the grout to pop or if you want it to be more seamless and harmonious with the colour of the tile. For most smaller bathrooms, a grout colour similar to that of the tile would be best. But even with a small bathroom, you could make a feature of one part of the bathroom by choosing a contrasting grout colour.
Using too many cut tiles. Cut tiles can create an interesting effect, but this should be limited to very small areas of the bathroom. Since cut tiles are very eye-catching, people who like to make a bold statement with design tend to utilise them. However, though bold can certainly be a good thing, the messy look of lots of cut tiles will simply be too much for the eye to handle. Even when you are cutting tiles to meet the edge of a floor or wall, try to cut them to over half the tiles' size because skinny tiles can look very jarring.
These are some mistakes to avoid when using bathroom tile. Once you've applied these rules, you can really get creative and have fun with tile and ultimately create a beautiful bathroom space like no other. Ask professionals about bathroom tile today.
